While San Antonians are notorious for being bad drivers, it turns out we're not as bad as we think. In a recent study from SmartAsset, Texas drivers rank as the 5th worst in the country.
Sure, fifth place is nothing to brag about, but it's also not that bad considering how reckless SA drivers can be as well as how intense traffic is in the Lone Star State's big cities.
Texas tied for fifth with New Mexico. California and Missouri tied for third while Tennessee ranked second. First place? No, it's not New York, but Mississippi.
Here's how SmartAsset came to their conclusions: the financial technology company looked at the percent of drivers with insurance (85.9 percent), the number of DUIs per driver, average number of death per miles driven and how often residents searched terms like "traffic ticket" and "speeding ticket" on Google.
Basically, the study found that Texans break the law quite a bit. Texas drivers googled "speeding ticket" enough to earn the ninth ranking in the category. Higher than average is the fatality rate per 100 million drivers. According to 2016 data, this number was 1.39 deaths in the category.
