Richard Blanco

Each year, as a part of its integration of freshman students, Trinity University sponsors a program called “Reading TUgether,” wherein the entire school community is invited to read a book and engage with it in formal and informal ways. It’s a unique way of providing a shared experience for students and faculty alike. Past selections have included Evicted by Matthew Desmond, Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us by Michael Moss, and The Circle by Dave Eggers. This year’s reading is Richard Blanco’s 2014 coming-of-age novel The Prince of Los Cocuyos. And here’s where you come in even if you have no affiliation with Trinity, as a kind of capstone to the shared-reading experience: Blanco, the official poet for Obama’s second inauguration, will give a reading that’ll be free and open to the general public.
