Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses

Critic's Pick Release Date: 2011-05-18

With album titles like Roadhouse Sun and Junky Star, it should come as no surprise that 30-year-old singer/songwriter Ryan Bingham conjures up “dusty wood and steel” (Rolling Stone) with a “whiskey-and-cigarette throat that screams of hard living” (Texas Music Magazine). A former bull rider, Texas-bred Bingham hit the ground running as the gravelly voiced singer (and co-writer) of “The Weary Kind.” As the apt theme for the 2009 film Crazy Heart, “The Weary Kind” raked in awards (Best Original Song at both the 2010 Academy Awards and Golden Globes and Best Song Written for a Motion Picture at the 2011 Grammy Awards) and cemented him as one of Americana’s most-bankable young stars. $30 ($35 for minors), doors at 6pm, Josabi’s, 17200 Hwy 16 N, Helotes, (210) 372-9100, josabis.com.
