San Antonio-Area School Districts Offering Free Meals for Students This Summer

In the United States, 22 million children depend on free or reduced-lunches to keep them full throughout the day. During the summer break, these children lose that source of food for almost three months.

To combat this problem, San Antonio schools will provide nutritious meals to low-income children this summer through district-wide summer feeding programs. These programs, which are made possible through federal funding administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture, are designed to keep students fed who would regularly go hungry over the break.

Although qualifications vary from district to district, many of the participating schools will offer free breakfast and lunches to students 18 and under while allowing adults to purchase meals at reduced prices.

San Antonio residents can find free summer meals within these districts:

San Antonio ISD // Children will be provided with meals twice a day at 37 locations. No application is required and students do not have to be enrolled in summer courses. (210) 554-220o,

North East ISD // Children 18 and under will be given meals for free, while adults are able to purchase lunch for $3.35 and breakfast for $2.15. (210) 356-9100,

Northside ISD // Meals will be offered Monday through Thursday from June 11 to July 11 at multiple elementary and middle school locations. Breakfast and lunch times vary. (210) 397-8550,

Harlandale ISD // The district’s feeding program is available at 17 campuses and will conclude on July 13. (210) 989-4344,

Edgewood ISD // Nine Edgewood campuses will provide breakfast and lunch starting June 5th. End dates vary based on location. (210) 444-4500,

Southwest ISD // Five Southwest campuses will offer meals to any child 18 and under. (210) 622-4300,

Southside ISD // Meals will be offered to individuals 18 and under and must be consumed on site. The Program will run from June 13 to July 19, Monday through Thursday, and will be closed July 4 & 5. (210) 882-1600,

Medina Valley ISD // Medina Valley’s program began last Friday. No form of identification is required. (830) 931-2243,
