Police have arrested a suspect in the death of a 3-year-old who was shot while sitting in the backseat of a car on November 4.

Rene Blancas Jr. died after someone pulled up behind his family's car near the intersection of New Laredo Highway and Briggs Avenue and fired a single gunshot, which struck Rene in the head. Rene was killed just a few days before his fourth birthday.

San Antonio police arrested Eric Treviño, 22, on Wednesday afternoon, after receiving a tip about his location.

"I didn't hurt no little boy, I ain't got time for that," Treviño told reporters after his arrest. "Why would I hurt a 3-year-old little boy?"

Treviño already has five felony warrants and two misdemeanor warrants out for his arrest — unrelated to the shooting.

"I made a promise to Mrs. Blancas that we would make an arrest in this case, and today we kept that promise," San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said after the arrest. He said he's extremely confident they got the right guy.

"This was a fascinating case from an investigating standpoint. There were some investigative techniques that were used," McManus said. "We had a lot of very, very good evidence in this case."
