In case you missed last month's half-dozen screenings, Straight 6 Films presents King of Bluegrass, a documentary about Jimmy Martin, bluegrass' rebel child, and his lifelong quest to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry cast `see "Pickin' and fightin', July 7-13, 2005`. A 20-minute documentary about the legendary Chicago-based honky-tonk band The Sundowners will also screen. Dolores del Rio stars in this award-winning tale. The film screens at 4 p.m. Sunday, August 21, at the Instituto de México, 600 Hemisfair. $2 suggested donation.

The Grand Illusion
Dir. Jean Renoir (1937)

The Grand Illusion, a (what else?) French critique of the horrors of World War I, is a poignant and telling counterpoint to this year's "Greatest Generation" hagiography, The Great Raid. The screening begins at 7:30 pm, Tuesday, August 23, at the Bijou at Crossroads Theatre. Tickets are $10 TPR members / $12 nonmembers, available at or 1-800-622-8777 during business hours.
