In July 1940, the Japanese counsel to Lithuania defied the orders of his superiors and with his wife's help spent four weeks writing visas by hand to help Jews escape the Holocaust. Because of their efforts, almost 6,000 Jews were able to flee to Kobe, Japan. The documentary screening is free, but reservations are requested. The program begins at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 3, at St. Mary's Hall, 9401 Starcrest. To RSVP, call 302-6974.

Tickets are on sale now for a Sunday, November 20 screening of the latest installment in the Harry Potter, child magician, saga at Santikos Northwest Cinema. Tickets are $8, $3.50 of which will be donated to the Animal Care Services' adoption-center fund. Tickets can be purchased at the ACS Adoption Center, 210 Tuleta Street, Wednesday and Friday from 5-6 p.m., and Saturday from 1-2 p.m. For more info, call 737-6992.
