The Italian Straw Hat

From the golden age of silent film, a charming farce in which a hapless bridegroom is pressed into replacing a straw hat on his wedding day. The film will screen at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the Bijou at Crossroads Theatre. Tickets are $10 TPR members / $12 nonmembers, available at tpr.org or 1-800-622-8777 (during business hours).

Movies at the Instituto

La Mujer Sin Alma
Dir. Fernando de Fuentes (1943)

Fernando Soler and María Félix star in this adaptation of 19th-century French novelist Alphonse Duder's story, which translates as "The Woman Without a Soul." The film screens at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at the Instituto de México, 600 Hemisfair Park. Admission is free.

Movies on the Slab

Mark of Zorro
Dir. Fred Niblo (1920)

Douglas Fairbanks makes his mark as the nobleman whose limp wrist by day shields him from the suspicion of the corrupt colonial government of Spanish California he fights by night. The tale owes much to The Scarlet Pimpernel, but the film became a new-world classic in its own right. Mark of Zorro screens at dusk Thursday, June 16, at the Slab at Probandt and Cevallos, across from La Tuna Icehouse. Admission is free. For more info, visit saevents.org/movies/index.htm.

Camp Cinema

AMC Theaters is offering a free Summer Movie Camp. Games and entertainment will be provided by counselors, followed by screenings of G- and PG-rated movies. Co-sponsored by Cartoon Network, which will present cartoon reels before each film. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Movies at 10:30 a.m. Wednesdays through August.
