Screens That's a wrap

The low-down on this week's premieres

It’s partly cloudy, er, a 20 percent chance of, er ... As unpredictable as the weather he monitors each day, the life of Dave Spritz (Nicolas Cage) is like a snowstorm in July in The Weather Man. Faced with the decision whether or not to audition for a meteorology spot on a national morning show, Dave tries to keep his personal life together while realizing the pros and cons of being a local celebrity.

The ever-dapper Michael Caine helps Nicolas Cage (left) find his soul and his cojones in The Weather Man.

The world proves to be a small place in Prime when photography producer Rafi Gardet (Uma Thurman) begins to date David Bloomberg (Bryan Greenberg), a young Brooklyn artist. David just so happens to be the son of Dr. Metzger (Meryl Streep), her psychoanalyst. I don’t think Xanax will help with this problem.

Antonio Banderas (Shrek 2) and Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Terminal) reunite in The Legend of Zorro, the sequel to 1998’s The Mask of Zorro. Now with a 10-year-old son, Zorro attempts to keep his promise to his wife to live a normal family life.

In Saw II, the notorious Jigsaw killer continues his reign of terror when he locks eight strangers in a room and proceeds to mentally and physically torture them. Sounds like my Brit Lit class junior year.

When James Manning (Tom Wilkinson) finds out his neighbor William (Rupert Everett) was involved in a hit and run that killed his maid’s husband, he must decide whether to turn him in to authorities in Separate Lies — a decision made more wrenching when he discovers an affair between Bill and his wife Anne (Emily Watson) that may also link her to the killing.

Local premiere dates for limited-release films are tentative and can change at the last minute. Please check your local theater listings to confirm showtimes.
