The low-down on this week's premieres
Santa must be a big film buff because there is a laundry, er, Christmas list of movies coming out this holiday week.
To begin, on Wednesday, December 21, Jim Carrey (Bruce Almighty) and Téa Leoni (Spanglish) play a married couple who rob banks to pay the bills in Fun with Dick and Jane. Also, Steve Martin (Shopgirl), along with 12 children, returns as the head of the house in Cheaper by the Dozen 2.

On Friday, December 23, four films open. Adapted from the Arthur Golden novel, Memoirs of a Geisha tells the story of Sayuri (Ziyi Zhang), a poor girl who becomes the most celebrated geisha in all of Japan. "Special" has been redefined in The Ringer as Johnny Knoxville (The Dukes of Hazzard) pretends to be mentally retarded so that he can rig the Special Olympics.
Based on the true story of the film's director-screenwriter Noah Baumbach, The Squid and the Whale stars Jeff Daniels (Good Night, and Good Luck) and Laura Linney (Kinsey) as parents fighting for custody of their two sons.
Director Steven Spielberg (War of the Worlds) pursues a different angle - revenge - to tell the story of the 1972 murders of 11 Israeli Olympic athletes in Munich.
After tearing through all your presents, head to the theater on Christmas Day for Rumor Has It... in which Sarah Huttinger (Jennifer Aniston) finds out that her family is the inspiration for the book and 1967 film The Graduate. In The Producers, a producer (Nathan Lane) and an accountant (Matthew Broderick) realize they can make easy money by putting a horrible play on stage. Finally, what's the holiday season without an Australian horror movie? In Wolf Creek three friends go on a road trip and get kidnapped by a Crocodile Dundee-like killer.
Local premiere dates for limited-release films are tentative and can change at the last minute. Please check your local theater listings to confirm showtimes.
