July might not feel like the most inviting month for gallery hopping, but there’s still a sprinkling of shows opening on Second Saturday that warrant a stroll around the South Flores/Lone Star corridor and points beyond. Slightly off the beaten path, the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center’s “Los Courts” takes over the Casa de Cuentos with an exhibit rooted in memories of the Alazán-Apache Courts, a 1939 complex considered “the first public housing community” built in San Antonio. Guests are invited to bring related “photos to scan and memories to share” (free, 10am-noon, Casa de Cuentos, 816 S. Colorado St.). Before the Second Saturday art walk officially kicks off, Southtown Vinyl and Secret Location Collective serve up the beats for a Muse Day Party featuring sets by DJs Catwalk, Soulstairs and Blend*E (free, 4-8pm, Southtown Vinyl, 1010 S. Flores St.). Tucked into the Freight compound, Revenant Gallery unveils “Between Here and There,” a two-man show pairing Abel Ortiz-Acosta, whose work explores immigration, U.S. and Mexican pop culture and the border as a “hybrid space,” and Charles Ligocky, whose latest project puts a metaphorical spin on the concept of being stuck “between here and there” (free, 8-11pm, Revenant Gallery, 1913 S. Flores St.). Around the corner at Dock Space, photographer Adam Rodriguez takes a reverent approach to Alamo City landmarks with “Nuestras Misiones” (free, 7-10pm, Dock Space Gallery, 107 Lone Star Blvd.). Next door at Lone Star Art Space, Detroit transplant Rhys Munro tackles the “jumbled (dis)order of contemporary society” with a new series of abstract paintings unified by a sense of “interconnected chaos” (free, 6-9pm, Lone Star Art Space, 1-7 Lone Star Blvd.). And down the way at Dorcol, self-taught, Austin-based artist and creative upcycler Brian Phillips celebrates the oddities and imperfections of wood with a collection of new works combining Southwestern wildlife and decorative elements reminiscent of color-printing registration marks (free, 7-10pm, Dorćol Distilling + Brewing Co., 1902 S. Flores St.)
