Shannon and the Clams

Oakland’s Shannon and the Clams, fronted by the flamboyant and dynamic bassist/vocalist Shannon Shaw, are one of the best live acts in indie rock. As with Hunx and his Punx, the over-the-top queercore punk band that Shaw came up with, there’s an effervescent kineticism to the Clams jams that is given full reign on stage. The group’s unique sound falls somewhere between punk and oldies, between doo-wop and lo-fi garage rock, between wild emotive weirdness and pop-powered psych-rock prowess. And if that all sounds like an exhaustingly hyperactive good time to you, you’re not wrong. Fans and initiates alike won’t want to miss this special show, which should see Shaw and company rocking a hefty helping of new tunes from their solid and recently released fourth album Gone By The Dawn. Local garage rock throwbacks The Rich Hands will open, while harmony-heavy San Fran psych-rockers Cool Ghouls round out the bill.
