The San Antonio Solid Waste Management Department wants a repeat of its most successful television campaign: an advertising deal with the Spurs.
Last year, SWMD launched the partnership with the Spurs to create more awareness about the city's recycling initiatives.
On Thursday, San Antonio City Council will vote on whether it will allow the department to spend $139,000 from its operating and maintenance fund to repeat the advertising campaign.
Last year, its commercials were featured during primetime television during the second half of the NBA season and through the playoffs. The campaign also brought increased visitation to the department's social media pages and websites.
According to background info in the agenda, the advertising campaign will help SWMD reach a residential recycling goal of 60 percent by 2025.
"By leveraging the fan base of the San Antonio Spurs, SWMD hopes to continue to reach new audiences that may have previously been missed," SWMD states in the background info.
That near $140,000 price-tag will get SWMD the following during the 2015-2016 NBA season:
- A 30-second SWMD commercial that will run 70 times during the season.
- SWMD will be a title sponsor for a season-long recycling campaign that culminates in NBA Green Week in April.
- As part of NBA Green Week, SWMD gets one week of promotional media leading up to Spurs Go Green Night; one week of live in-game TV-drops during Spurs broadcasts on Fox Sports Southwest; and five social media sponsor posts on the Spurs Facebook page.
