S'Nuff film

There are so many holiday film screenings this week you might just be able to distract your family from realizing that you’ve been evicted from your house in the middle of winter. Ho ho ho.

Free and local: The Winter Holiday Spectacular from noon to 11 p.m. Saturday, December 20, at HemisFair Park (200 S. Alamo; features family-friendly activities both shamelessly Judeo-Christian (pictures with Santa Claus, Christmas caroling) and acceptably pagan (gingerbread houses, whatever a “playground of snow” is), followed by screenings of eternal holiday standbys How the Grinch Stole Christmas (6 p.m.), A Christmas Story (6:30 p.m.), and It’s a Wonderful Life (8:30 p.m.)

Local, but not free: ¡Oooey Cucuy!, a fundraiser for local production company Madmedia featuring live music by local polka punkers Piñata Protest, spoken-word performances, and a silent auction, begins 8:30 p.m. Saturday, December 20, at the Miss Southtown Complex (533 Roosevelt). There’s a $5 cover charge.

And the McNay (6000 N. New Braunfels; will screen Under the Bombs, filmed on location in war-scarred Lebanon. Admission is free for McNay members, $5 for the plebes.
