S'Nuff film

Show me that smile again, San Antonio. Who better to help us forget last year’s growing pains than Mike freaking Seaver himself, Kirk Cameron, who’ll be appearing at this year’s San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival (independentchristianfilms.com). But Cameron has more to talk about than his seven-year stint in Alan Thicke’s sitcom vehicle. (Isn’t it weird now to think that Alan Thicke once had a vehicle of any kind, like even a previously owned Toyota Camry?)

Cameron recently starred in Fireproof, a John 3:16-friendly indie that’s so far earned more than $30 million even though most godless film critics either panned it or ignored it completely (please forgive me).

In addition to Cameron’s speech and a screening of his possible abortion of a film (Neil Genzlinger at the New York Times called it a “decent attempt”), the SAICFF offers Christian features, documentaries, and shorts. The festival runs January 8-10, and tickets, $75 per person, are available online. And those wanting to produce their own flicks should check out the SAICFF’s filmmakers’ academy, January 5-7. Tickets are $595 per person, but they include a free pass to the festival and, presumably, heaven.
