S'Nuff film

Museo Alameda (thealameda.org) will continue its Movies at the Museo series Thursday, January 15, with a free screening of two documentaries by Mexican filmmaker Rafael Rebollar Corona – Florida to Coahuilla and The Forgotten Root – which explore the continued influence of African immigrants on Mexican culture. The first film begins at 8 p.m.

And the Human Rights Watch Traveling Filmfestival will kick off three nights of free screenings (more about these in next week’s S’Nuff) with Letter to Anna, a Swiss documentary investigating the murder of Russian journalist Anna Politkovskaya, who was mysteriously killed after criticizing her country’s military actions. The film begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, at Trinity University’s Chapman Auditorium (trinity.edu).

If you like your film screenings to cost money and hit closer to home, Disaster Strikes, the first film created in San Antonio’s Scene from both Sides program, debuts at the Santikos Bijou (santikos.com) 6:30 p.m. Sunday, January 18. The four-week film program challenges students to complete an entire short from screenplay to screening. Tickets are $5 and proceeds go to benefit the Texas Motion Picture Alliance.
