Sorry Folks, This Texas Sheriff Says His Hugging Days Are Over

If all you wanted for Christmas was a hug from Nueces County Sheriff Jim Kaelin, then I'm sorry to say you're going to have to find something new to put on your wish list. On Wednesday, the sheriff announced on his Facebook page that he will no longer give or receive hugs.

That is, unless you're family or a close friend.

Although it sounds like an odd announcement to make, Kaelin's decision comes in response to the stream of individuals coming forward with sexual assault allegations against men in positions of power, from politicians and journalists to actors and various celebrities.

He said he will shake hands and fist bump since people can feel threatened by a hug. He said his refusing to hug might offend people, but hopes they can understand.

While many were sad and harped the "what has the world come to?" narrative, a few commenters noted that the issue isn't about hugging.

While his post comes off as being concerned, Kaelin has made fun of these harrassment claims in the past. In fact, he made light of the scandals when he shared this meme on November 17. As far as the no more hugging, we think we'll be alright.
