Remember in 2008 when a young Derrick Rose graced the Alamo City with the University of Memphis during the NCAA's Final Four?
I do, and I'm not even the biggest sports fan in the office. Rose was then drafted by the Chicago Bulls as the first overall pick and was voted Rookie of the Year. Super great.
But as Esquire points out, everything's been downhill from there:
On Tuesday, Rose sustained his billionth injury (rough estimate), a left orbital fracture that occurred during yesterday's practice. According to the Bulls, the fragile player will undergo surgery on Wednesday. Since being named the 2010-2011 MVP, Rose's bones have become tissue paper. He missed the 2012-2013 season with a torn ACL, and spent much of the 2013-2014 season on the bench after tearing the medial meniscus in his right knee. Oh, and he had a meniscectomy on the same knee in February, missing 31 regular-season games in the 2014-2015 season. Now, it's an eye socket injury, endured after the cursed player took an elbow to the face.
ESPN's SportsCenter shared this totally justified meme on Facebook this morning. It's also worth noting that some of Duncan's absences were just due to Coach Popovich holding him out to rest up for the playoffs (remember the infamous DNP-Old?). Injuries suck, and we're hoping this doesn't give Timmy D any ojo, but snaps to SportsCenter for the on-point comparison.
