Without implying that it’s wholly derivative at all (because it’s not), young, talented, and local indie rock outfit St. Dukes reminds me a bit of Sunset Rubdown, the delirious and excellent side-project of Wolf Parade frontman Spencer Krug. There’s a delicate thread of chaos running through Inez Escobar Jr’s enchanting vocals. Meanwhile, the group’s overall sound veers toward the more energetic and jangly side of intricate indie-pop, swelling with youthful rhythms of celebration. This weekend, catch St. Dukes in action as the band releases its debut EP, with support from other talented young bands Roshii and Noise Quota.
