Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: Luisa Wheeler

luisa wheeler

The 10th installment of the Institute of Texan Cultures’ Texas Contemporary Artists Series highlights Luisa Wheeler’s “bold” and “unbridled” works in an exhibition comprising 51 digitally manipulated photographs that chronicle her “life experiences through the present.” Curated by Arturo Infante Almeida, the solo show is playfully punctuated with a lone sculpture — a chair upholstered with mismatched neckties. Born in Eagle Pass in 1957 and raised in Piedras Negras, Mexico, the self-taught painter-turned photographer earned her BFA (2001) and MFA (2007) from UTSA and has studied in Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Germany. Falling somewhere between visual diaries and experimental travelogues, her projects aim to give viewers “a strong feeling of life and beauty” while expressing her own vision of “reality in another world.” $6-$8; 9am-5pm Tue, Feb 5; Institute of Texan Cultures, 801 E César Chávez, (210) 458-2300, Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here:
