Oppositional currents in 20th-century art converge in “Real/Surreal: Selections from the Whitney Museum of American Art.” Second in a series aimed at reassessing the Whitney’s permanent collection, the exhibition assembles works by Edward Hopper, Man Ray, Joseph Cornell, Yves Tanguy, Charles Burchfield, Paul Cadmus, Philip Guston, Ben Shahn, Charles Sheeler, George Tooker, and Andrew Wyeth in a fashion The New York Times likened to “visiting your grandmother’s attic and finding it loaded with forgotten treasures.” With Jared French’s State Park among its examples, “Real/Surreal” visits bizarre worlds and finds an odd common ground between the imagined and the observed.  $5-$10; 10am-4pm Wed, Feb 13; The McNay Art Museum, 6000 N New Braunfels, (210) 824-5368, Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here:
