Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: Texas Folklife Festival

Zorya Ukrainian Dance Ensemble0567

The cultural fabric of the Lone Star state comes to life in living color at the Texas Folklife Festival. Modeled after the inaugural Smithsonian Folklife Festival and launched in 1972, the three-day fest brings 250 organizations together to celebrate the history and heritage of Texas. A family favorite for its worldly array of edible treats (Greek gyros, Scotch eggs, and German bratwurst, to name a few), TFF sets seven stages abuzz with live music in every flavor plus dance performances and demonstrations bringing more than 40 cultures to light. The “quintessential Texas experience” comes complete with a Games Field for the kids and a showcase of nearly 60 artisans preserving Texas traditions through trades like leatherworking, blacksmithing, and woodcarving. $5-$12, 5-11pm Fri, 11am-11pm Sat, noon-7pm Sun, Institute of Texan Cultures, 801 E César Chávez, (210) 485-2300, texancultures.com.
