Stay Current with the Pick of the Day: "We're So Pretty": 35th Anniversary of the Sex Pistols' San Antonio Appearance

Sid Vicious

On January 8, 1978, the Sex Pistols played for the first and last time at Randy’s Ballroom in San Antonio (see feature on page 39). That infamous U.S. tour was also their first and last in the States, and the band would self-destruct (in the case of Sid Vicious, literally) shortly after visiting Texas. The South Texas Popular Culture Center (Tex Pop) will show photographs of the Randy’s show and a special Johnny Rotten portrait by photographer Ken Hoge. The great absence: Nancy Gray, who was approached by Tex Pop but wasn’t ready to exhibit just yet. She has an amazing series of pics from that night and deserves her own show sometime this year, ideally at Tex Pop — a place that understands and cherishes Texas music history like no one. Free; 7-10pm Fri, Jan 4; South Texas Popular Culture Center, 1017 E Mulberry, (210) 792-1312. Check out our full online calendar of upcoming events here:
