Terri Hendrix Band with Lloyd Maines

The Texas trailblazer, Terri Hendrix, is an award-winning singer-songwriter, classically trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist (guitar, mandolin, and harmonica); music workshop teacher (from the Berklee School of Music to the Kerrville Folk Festival to her own annual “Life’s a Song” retreat in Port Aransas, Texas); the author of a book combining essays and a soup-to-nuts independent artist how-to-guide called “Cry Till You Laugh — The Part that Ain’t Art” (described by the Austin American Statesman as “equal parts spiritual and practical, honest, funny, useful, revelatory and moving”); and, most recently, the founder of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community arts center called the OYOU — which stands, of course, for “Own Your Own Universe.” Fundraising for the center’s eventual home — which will one day be a handicapped-accessible, multi-purpose venue in Hays County, Texas for people of all ages — has already begun. In the meantime, the OYOU is a “get-it-done” grassroots operation with the goal of getting music and all things art into the ears and hands of folks that need it via performances, instrument donations, workshops and other special events throughout Texas and beyond.

Chicken-on-a-Stick
Fiesta favorite chicken-on-a-stick is basically the supreme food booth snack from all of Fiesta. San Antonians look forward to eating it all year, and usually commemorate their first chicken-on-a-stick of the season with a selfie. It’s inspired chicken-on-a-stick necklaces, earrings, stickers and more from local designers, and has appeared on menus across SA so folks can get their fix. Thank goodness for that.
