Texas Representative Molly White (right) is taking aim at gay marriage and the Supreme Court with a bill that she thinks would actually trump the highest court in the nation.
Talk about a waste of time.
Texas Representative Molly White, of Belton, filed a bill in an attempt to preemptively undermine the highest court in the United States.
Clearly, White has failed to understand one of the most basic lessons in Government 101.
According to her landmark legislation, the Texas Constitution, which was amended to ban same-sex marriage, will "apply regardless of whether a federal court ruling or other federal law provides that a prohibition against the creation or recognition of a same-sex marriage or a civil union is not permitted under the United States Constitution."
Really?
Well, this is for real and it has been referred to committee. We hope it doesn't go any farther and that other Lone Star State legislators realize what a colossal waste of time this is.
This isn't the first time White's sanity and reasoning have been called into question (this is only her first year as a state representative, too).
In February, during Muslim Capitol Day, White made eyes rolls when she said any muslim who visited her office would be asked to renounce terrorism. Naturally, reasonable people everywhere sighed with disbelief that this woman is actually in power.
She said this on Facebook and has repeatedly defended the statement, as she is unable to understand why it's offensive and disingenuous.
"Instead of understanding the comment, the political correctness that dominates our public dialogue sought to construe the statement into something intolerant, bigoted and anti-American. This politically correct syndrome seeks to inflict social discipline and tolerance reminders on the perpetrators of candid statements with the intention to silence comments on important issues that face our society," she wrote. "When we remain silent, we lose the opportunity to shed light on issues important to our freedom."
Important issues like protecting Texas from the scary Supreme Court and the possibility that it will rule against Texas' discriminatory same-sex marriage ban, finding it unconstitutional.
