The Art of the Opening with Andrew Porter
How does one create a compelling opening to a short story or novel? In this course, Gemini Ink will examine not only what makes a good opening sentence, but also what makes a good opening paragraph or scene. They move beyond simply “hooking” the reader and explore strategies for quickly connecting readers with characters. Part of the class will be spent exploring these strategies and part will focus on exercises designed to create compelling openings yourself; openings you might one day use in your own fiction.
