Although Brian Wilson was recently scheduled to play the last live performance of the 1966 Beach Boys record Pet Sounds – the Boys' Sgt. Pepper's – at the rained-out Levitation Fest, buck up Beach Boys lovers! Mike Love will be heading to town to perform some of the classic tracks from the quintet's brilliant catalog.
Having penned the lyrics to "Surfin'" and collaborating on "Fun, Fun, Fun" and "California Girls," among others, Love and his bright baritone shared most of the lead vocal duties with Brian Wilson on the group's iconic recordings, detailing the lovelorn teenage years of America's youth along with more mature content, placed right alongside their more whimsical works. While Wilson's mental state deteriorated in the years following Pet Sounds, Smiley Smile and Wild Honey due to the rigorous demands from their label for new music, Love took the reins and in 1988 penned the group's only number one hit without Wilson, "Kokomo."
The Beach Boys, now led by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, along with Jeffrey Foskett, Brian Eichenburger, Tim Bonhomme, John Cowsill and Scott Totten, will perform at the Majestic Theatre on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets for the event are priced from $45-$75, are available at the theatre box office, ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000 and go on sale Friday, May 20 at 10 a.m.
