The Constitutional Conundrum of Teaching 'Bible History' in American Public Schools

In the final lecture of the 2016 Lennox Lecture Series, Professor Mark Chancey of Southern Methodist University will explore the complexities involved when public schools teach about the bible. Professor Chancey is the author of several books, including “Greco-Roman Culture and the Galilee of Jesus.” He is also the author of “Reading, Writing & Religion II: Texas Public School Bible Courses in 2011-12,” a report that documents a widespread failure to implement key guidelines passed by the Legislature in 2007 to improve the academic quality and legal status of Bible courses in Texas public schools.
