In everything's-wrong-with-the-world news, food editor Karen Haram is retiring from the San Antonio Express-News. The paper wrote* about Haram's retirement earlier this afternoon stating the following:
"Haram is an outstanding editor who has made a huge impact at this paper. Under her guidance, the Taste section was named best in the country three years in a row by the Association of Food Journalists. She also has earned legions of fans and readers for her excellent columns and stories and her ability to offer anyone who calls or writes truly helpful guidance and advice about cooking, dining and recipes."
Haram leaves the EN after 28 years as food editor on April 18. The news comes weeks after longtime music writer Jim Beal announced his retirement from the Express-News. As someone who learned so much about cooking, food writing and toughing it out in this industry from Haram (or Karebear as I've been known to call her), I'm sad we're losing such a great entity within the food scene.
