San Antonians and Spurs fans alike have waited all summer to hear whether longtime Spur Manu Ginobili would return for another season or call it quits.

Via social media, the fan favorite announced Monday afternoon that he would retire.
He not only announces his retirement from the Spurs, but "from basketball." This may mean that Ginobili is also done playing in Europe and for Argentina.

The 41-year-old spent 16 seasons with the Spurs. He was originally drafted by San Antonio in the 1999 draft (the same year the Spurs won their first-ever championship), but decided to play in Europe before starting his NBA career. His time in San Antonio earned him four championships and his place in "The Big 3" alongside Tim Duncan and Tony Parker.

With Duncan retired and Parker now in Charlotte, Ginobili's retirement truly marks the end of an era in the Spurs franchise and the NBA.
