The guerrilla Queer Invasion needs WOMEN!

It's always nice when San Antonio gets a little bit of big city action to break up the monotony of our small town feel. It's rare, but sometimes it feels like magic. I was recently invited to go to "The Queer Invasion," and even though I had no idea what I was in for, I loved the sound of it. I imagined a militia of men and women flashing their pride in a local bar, hanging with good friends and meeting some new booty calls. And it was all that, except for the women part...

The Guerrilla Queer Invasion started in the more urban queer hubs of San Francisco, New York, Boston and Chicago. The concept is simple: Every month, a local bar is selected to be invaded by the gay army, wearing pre-selected colors or accessories to show who was part of the not-so-secret club. Joe Wise decided to start the trend here in SA about three years ago. He runs the website, where you can look at past invasions with nice photos and thumping club music. I asked Joe point blank why the queer ladies were missing from the scene. Seriously, the gay woman to gay man ratio was 5:100. He said he has been trying to get women to attend, but it's just been hit or miss from month to month, and that calling it "Queer Invasion" should imply that both men and women of jotería are welcome. ARTslut was there, and together we counted four lesbians in a sea of gay men.

I felt a call to action, a deep need to get the word out to my women. The queer invasion needs US! So please ladies, if you feel so inclined, visit the website or the facebook page where you can find out about upcoming invasions. They go down every second Friday of the month in all areas of town. I'll be looking for you...
