The lovable strip dive ain't so dive-y anymore. However, we can't go back. For those that fear change, you better learn to live with it. Besides, for a band, The Mix now offers several things that it never used to. One being an industry competitor for regional acts, as well as a platform to be seen by more than just the typical crowd. If you wanna hate, you're gonna hate. See where it gets you.
As for those that can get past the inevitable winding of change, your reward awaits: a space with Edison bulbs lining its interior (original to the bar), a new hardwood floor, numerous new taps and a fancy new stage, among other surprises like working bathrooms.
In celebration of "The Grand Re-Opening" of the Strip staple, The Mix is throwing a week-long bash to help christen the new joint. Here's an opportunity to break it in with some of the city's best acts, a DJ set by experimental hip-hop duo Shabazz Palaces (word?!) and some meat, barbecued meat.
As always, the shows are free. Here's the lineup:
Monday, April 25: Bring your Own Meat Monday with King's Hwy Brew & Q. Starts at 6pm. Tuesday, April 26: JJ Lopez and The Soul Spot Wednesday, April 27: Harvey McLaughlin & the BottomFeeders and DJ Ely Bat Thursday, April 28: Los Callejeros de San Anto and Volcán Friday, April 29: Shabazz Palaces DJ set with ManEaters of Tsavo and BLAAK HEAT Noon Saturday, April 30: Food will be provided by Frank.
