The Sound & & The Fury

Next week, there’ll be too many high-caliber national shows in town to shake a stick at (or buy tickets to, like a normal person), so use this week to appreciate the local scene.

Ernest Gonzales says he’s retiring from DJing in order to concentrate on making original music. He’s already quit his weekly Flux gig at Nightrocker Live, and this month’s Get Busy Friday at Limelight (free before 10 p.m.; 2718 N. Saint Mary’s) will be his last. He promises a hell of a wake though, with LA producer Take, aka Sweatson Klank, and local beat-maker Diego Bernal sharing turntable time.

But the music gods never close down an institution without reopening a closed one (or something like that), so Café Revolucíon (527 El Paso) is once again open for business. Celebrate the resurrection Sunday with Kill the Peace, Ecocide, Las Hijas de la Chingada, and Chicago hardcore act Sin Orden (on their socially pertinent Brown Is Not a Crime Tour; go to myspace.com/sinorden for more info). Admission is $5 for all ages; BYOB.

Don’t forget those local mainstays that are still going strong. Grab a snack and show your appreciation for head Swindler Mitch Webb, who’ll be performing from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Main Plaza (free; 115 N. Main) as part of the ongoing Acoustic Lunch series.
