The Hollies never got to meet Buddy Holly and the Yardbirds never hung out with Charlie Parker. Girl in a Coma, however, recently had the opportunity to commune with the artist who provided them with their band name and continues to serve as their greatest inspiration.

Of course, that artist is Morrissey and the vegan bard went out of his way to attend a Los Angeles GIAC show at the Viper Room on Monday, September 17. Girl in a Coma were opening for The Donnas, and when the San Antonio trio learned that the man who penned “We Hate It When Our Friends Are Successful” would be arriving early to see them, they were nearly overcome with nervous anticipation.

They needn’t have worried. Moz met the band after the performance, offered words of encouragement, and told them that he particularly liked “Clumsy Sky” and “Say.”

On Sunday, September 30, GIAC will again be in LA for a multi-media event sponsored by the Latin American Cinemateca of Los Angeles, called Mexico! Mexico! Rock! Rock! Rock!, where they’ll play a set of Mexican rock tunes from the ’60s. They return to SA on Friday, October 5, for a show at Sam’s Burger Joint.
