The sound and the fury

Bombasta has concentrated on recording and out-of-town performances lately, but the group will play its first local gig of the season at a First Friday After Party on Friday, February 1, at Café Revolución (527 El Paso). The gig will allow the band to introduce new trumpet player Tony Romero and new keyboardist David Moreno to SA audiences.

Joining the beat-heavy ensemble at Café Revolución will be guest percussionist/vocalist Jai, world-folk songstress Azul Barrientos — whose band will play a special electric set — and DJ Victima, who’ll showcase Spanish-language reggae tracks between band sets. Showtime is 10:30 p.m., and the cover
is $6. ...

With local alt-rock quartet Blowing Trees set to unleash their Glassnote Records debut album next month (a week after their scheduled appearance at SXSW), the band’s leadoff single “The Day the World Left Me” is receiving play on SIRIUS Radio’s Left of Center station. ...

The fourth annual Urban Music Festival is scheduled for February 15-17 and any singers, rappers, or dancers interested in performing should contact Quinn Dixon at (210) 967-6348
