Saturday, May 3, offers at least three outstanding live-music options and enterprising souls could probably make it to at least two of them without too much strain:

The Accidental Trio celebrates the release of their self-titled debut CD with a bash at Carmen’s de la Calle Cafe (720 E. Mistletoe Ave.). This virtuosic jazz group uses its unconventional lineup — Mark Rubinstein on French accordion, Matt Dunne on guitar, and Joan Carroll on vocals — to deliver fresh readings of classics both esoteric (“Little B’s Poem,” “Waltz for Debby”) and highly familiar (“Hello, It’s Me,” “Moon River”). They’ll get started at 8:30 p.m.

At the Limelight (2718 N. St. Mary’s St.), Suzy Bravo makes a return visit from her new home of Austin to celebrate James Brown’s birthday with a soul-brother-number-one tribute show. She’ll be backed by her Soul Revue, with JJ Lopez working the turntables. The funk hits the fans at 10 p.m.

At Patsy’s Ice House (2602 N. Flores), local indie-rockers Yoshimoto set the table for The Old Haunts, a criminally underappreciated Olympia, Washington trio whose new Kill Rock Stars album, Poisonous Times, is among the best early releases of 2008. Showtime is 9 p.m.
