S&F’s favorite hellhound-racing, demon-exorcising, blues-punk trio, Boxcar Satan, seems to follow the old Satchel Paige axiom about not looking back because someone may be gaining on you. In the time it takes most of us to brush our teeth, they inevitably write and record a new set of scary/stunning classics. BS will celebrate the release of their fifth, and latest, full-length CD, Trouble All Its Own, on Sunday, November 16, at Rock Bottom Tattoo Bar. They’ll be joined by their Oregon friend and sometime collaborator, Ghostwriter, and the ever-entertaining Suzy Bravo & the Soul Revue (here’s hoping that Bravo includes her no-nonsense version of Gladys Knight’s “I’ve Got to Use My Imagination”). Tickets are $5 for adults, $7 for minors. Showtime is 8:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, November 12, solo songstress Azul kicks off the second year of her monthly concert series at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center. Azul will dedicate the performance to exploring the Mexican legend of the crying woman: La Llorona. Extensive research helped her put together a set of songs from Mexico, Spain, Argentina, and the United States, each with a distinct regional angle on the folkloric tale. Suggested donation is $5. Showtime is
8 p.m.
