The Sound & The Fury

This is a big week for Exponential Records, the thinking-person’s electronica label run by veteran local producer and DJ Ernest Gonzales.

On May 5, Exponential put out two new releases from SA artists: AM Architect’s Road to the Sun album, and Mexicans With Guns Nuts and Bongos EP.

Road to the Sun finds AM Architect — the production duo of Diego Chavez and Daniel Stanush — exploring their penchant for sunny, free-floating mood music, best demonstrated with the downtempo, ambient groove of “Unspoken” and the jazzy, cocktail funk of “Next of Kin.”

With Nuts and Bongos, Mexicans With Guns (recently touted as one of URB Magazine’s “Next 100”) take obsessive compulsiveness to creative heights, offering six different mixes of the title track, an electro-funk hip-hop tune built around MC exchanges from Spoek Mathambo and Cerebral Vortex.

Mexicans With Guns can next be seen at Limelight’s Shake ‘Em Down DJ night on Wednesday, June 10.

Both releases are currently available at antipop.net
