THE SOUND AND THE FURY

Coming off a wild 2008 which found them getting a big Hollywood thumbs-up from Tommy Lee at a Guitar Center Battle of the Bands, The Heroine will celebrate the release of their new CD on Saturday, June 20, at Jiggers, along with The Conflict, Top Dead Center, and Bexar County Bastards. It should be a night of ear-melting riffage, and you have to admire The Heroine for their place in the select pantheon of rock bands (Black Sabbath, Bad Company, Tin Machine) that have written songs named after their own band (or vice versa).

The Jiggers show will compete with the second day of metallic ferocity at White Rabbit, which hosts a stop for the “Summer Slaughter” tour, with a lineup that includes Necrophagist, Beneath the Massacre, and the ever-cheerful Dying Fetus. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. for the Thursday, June 18, show and at 2 p.m. on June 20.

Finally, critics (and anyone who thinks pomposity doesn’t have to be so bland) be damned, Tony Parker and Eva Longoria were among the revelers at last week’s Coldplay show. I wouldn’t say that Tony, Eva, Jay-Z, Brian Eno, and Gwyneth Paltrow can’t all be wrong, but it’s enough to make me wonder.
