The Sound & The Fury

Polysics (named after a Korg synthesizer) is the fourth Japanese band to visit SA in two weeks, but this is the last chance we’ll get to see them in the present lineup: long -time member Kayo (keyboards, guitar, vocoder) will leave the somewhat Devo-influenced band after their March 14 show at Tokyo’s legendary Budokan. The frantic-paced, self-proclaimed kings (and queens) of “technicolor pogo punk” released their 10th album, Absolute Polysics, last month, and their live shows are supposed to be killer. Kayo and soon-to-be former bandmates (Hiro on vocals, guitar, and programming; Fumi on bass, vocals, and synthesizer; and Yano on drums) will be at the White Rabbit February 5 ($12-$14, 2410 N. St. Mary’s,, doors open at 7 pm). After that, the band goes on hiatus.

If you’re into that rodeo thing, the concert portion begins 7 p.m. February 4 with Randy Houser, followed by Tim McGraw’s first rodeo appearance in 10 years at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. February 6, and Hootie & the Blowfish’s Darius Rucker (who is doing country now, just to make sure we keep lovin’ him), 7 p.m. February 9. Rustle up the complete lineup at – Enrique Lopetegui.
