This 1872 home for sale in the Hill Country town of Fredericksburg started as an apartment building

The elegant facade of historical home recently listed in Fredericksburg for more than $1.4 million makes it a little hard to believe it was originally built as an apartment building.

However, according to historical records the 2,500-square-foot limestone structure was built by a stonemason in 1872 as a multi-family dwelling. A vintage photo even shows it minus its distinctive second-floor balcony and with wooden stairs running up the front to access the second-floor rooms.

According to the two-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath property's listing agent, owners who purchased it around decade ago conducted an extensive renovation, bringing the dwelling to its current state. The exterior stone walls are visible throughout much of the lower floor, while a solarium has been added to its detached carport.
