Toke & Greenbeard

Don’t look now, but Loy Smoak’s Sell Your Soul Presents…, known for booking some of the crunchiest, down-and-dirtiest hard rock shows around, is bringing a positively sizzling bill of out-of-town, genre-straddling rawk to The Mix this week. North Carolina’s Toke, for starters, is a doom/stoner rock (duh) three-piece that deftly melds its metal intensity with a rewarding penchant for blues infusion. You can dig Toke’s music at tokenc.bandcamp.com. Greenbeard, hailing from ATX, come with the sludgy, deep-dish stoner fuzz too, but with a psychedelic, trance-inducing approach. Finally, Nashville’s Howling Giant will round out the bill, offering up its mind-expanding, sci-fi/fantasy-influenced brand of searing space rock. Preview Greenbeard and Howling Giant’s music at greenbeard.bandcamp.com and howlinggiant.bandcamp.com, respectively.

Hot Joy’s twice-fried chicken wings are a classic for a reason. The savory and sweet combo of crab fat and caramel work together perfectly. Plus, the Southtown eatery offers six wings for $6 every Wednesday. Now that sounds like a win.

For double the fun, you’ll thank yourself for hitting up Fiesta Texas. Have your fun on the regular coasters at night when it’s slightly cooler, but first beat the heat at White Water Bay. There’s a variety of water rides and attractions, such as the Bahama Blaster, Bermuda Triangle, Big Bender and more! Of course, you can’t forget about the Texas-shaped pool, nicknamed the Lone Star Lagoon, and the massive Tornado. Seriously, you’ll be sorry if you don’t stop by before summer ends.
