Tool to Debut First New Album in More Than a Decade

While we admit that Tool is certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, the band's been held in high regard in San Antonio since bursting onto the alt-metal and heavy rock scene in the early ’90s.

For those who do care, the band has announced on Twitter that its first new album in 12 years is due on August 30.
At a show in Birmingham, Alabama, on Tuesday night, a video flashed the phrase “August 30th” during an intermission. According to Consequence of Sound, Tool singer Maynard James Keenan said, “Alright, everyone, take out your phones, security stand down, and let these fuckers do whatever it is with their phones” — a clear encouragement for the audience to share the date on social media.

The as-of-now-untitled record will be the band’s first release since 2006’s 10,000 Days. Also, at the Welcome to Rockville Festival Sunday night, the band played two new songs from the upcoming album, “Descending” and “Invincible.”

With River City Rockfest on the horizon and Tool about to drop a long-awaited studio LP, could this mean that the band will be headlining? We’ll have to wait and find out.
