Peering from various press photos, Paul Oakenfold often appears pensive and subdued. One wonders what's percolating in the peculiar brain of this ubiquitous British DJ to create such a frenzy of music and buzz.

Somehow you know you've entered the realm of success when fans can download trance polyphonic ring-tone samples of your work off the web. Oakenfold brings his tachychardia-inducing trance music to the heart of Texas this week. Currently touring the U.S. and Canada, the London-born hellion incorporates lengthy, hypnotic beats with winding electronica to "tranceport" listeners through tunnels of sounds into a sort of dance utopia.

After producing 16 albums, Oakenfold has fortified his place in the worldwide dance music scene. He's been spinning records and mixing bouncy electronic dance beats for more than a decade and there's rarely a still stiletto in the house when he works. The crisp production on much of his work inherently exhibits the kind of cool, lucid experiences that he cultivates.

malleable world of dance/trance music and smelts it into a novel realm of sounds suitable to listen to while conducting architectural engineering or maybe even driving across the crystalline Salt Flats in Utah.

Oakenfold carries a discography that would make many a nascent vinyl flipper melt. His nimble fingers have put a paw print on movie soundtracks including The Planet of the Apes and Swordfish. In addition, his collaborations throughout the 1990s sent him on a series of shows performing under various aliases, including Element, `State of` Grace and Bunker. On Friday, October 29, Oakenfold brings his morphing musicology to Planeta Bar-rio.
