Valentine’s Day in Japan was introduced in the mid 20th century for commercial purposes. Having two different dates, February 14th and March 14th, the dates have two different purposes. The first date is where females are in charge of handing chocolate gifts to their male dates. On the second date, known as White Day, the male dates return the favor.

While not exactly a Valentine’s Day tradition, it still involves a romantic tradition that is quite popular in France. At the Pont des Arts near the Louvre, a fad began in which love-struck partners began locking padlocks on the chain link fence and throwing the key into the Seine River. By doing this, the couple made a sign of eternal devotion to each other.

English women have an old tradition in regards to obtaining a significant other. These ladies would pin four bay leaves on the corners of their pillows and one in the center. By doing this, women would believe that they would dream of their future husbands. While this is no longer an active practice, some women still partake in this classic tradition.
