Vets Get Moving with Segs4Vets

On Veterans' Day, one of my favorite nonprofits organizations, Segs4Vets, will present handicap-adapted Segways to 37 military men and women who sustained severe injuries and permanent disabilities while serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. This moving (pun intended) ceremony takes place right in front of the Alamo, Thursday, November 11 at 10:45 am.

Segs4Vets is an all-volunteer administered program under Disability Rights Advocates for Technology (DRAFT). The organization is a member of Military, Veterans & Patriotic Service Organizations of America and has been certified as one of the best charities in America by the Independent Charities Seal of Excellence. Since 2005, Segs4Vets has given the gift of increased mobility to hundreds of wounded vets through grants and private donations.

The video shows a glimpse of the ceremony with a short interview from a recipient.

I've attended most of Seg4Vets' previous Alamo presentations. As the daughter of an Army colonel, I sit reverently through patriot speeches and the procession of vets--some with more than one prosthetic limb--rolling in on their new Segs. But, silently, in my head, I am hearing John Lennon... Imagine all the people, Living life in peace...

Ya'll come if you can on Thursday.
