Known for boldly playful and nostalgic works populated by unicorns, kitty cats, rainbows and other hallmarks of childhood innocence, San Antonio-based artist Jen Frost Smith presents her “colorful paintings, funny drawings, assemblages and installation” as catalysts to conjure “good juju” and counteract “the harsh reality of the world.”

Marking Frost Smith’s second creative endeavor with Brooklyn-based Madeleine Cutrona (a fellow Maryland Institute College of Art alum who “makes art about the world around her and the world she wants to exist”), the exhibition “Waiting Garden” tasked the likeminded artists with collaborating remotely from their home bases.

Promising to turn Clamp Light Gallery into “a terrarium for reflection, meditation and solace,” the installation invites viewers “into a psychological landscape of the artists’ collective consciousness filled with texture, repetition and color.” Following the opening reception, “Waiting Garden” remains on view by appointment through January 31.

Free, Friday, January 12, 7-10pm, Clamp Light Studios & Gallery, 1704 Blanco Road, (903) 914-0016, clamplightsa.com.
