For almost a century “We Shall Not Be Moved” has been one of the most important songs sung in social justice struggles around the world. In this public lecture, Dr. David Spener, chairperson of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Trinity University, will tell the story of how this song began as a slave spiritual in the early nineteenth century and in the twentieth century became an anthem for the labor and African American civil rights movements in the United States.
