Local worship pastor Caleb Saenz is on to something. Lay's is hosting their yearly Do Us A Flavor campaign where they take frequently requested flavors and have chip lovers vote on a new variety. This year's batch includes Greektown Gyro, Southern Biscuits & Gravy, West Coast Truffle Fries and a New York Reuben (Listen to Grantland's Food News podcast for their take on the new flavors here.)
Saenz's wife Jennifer pointed out a huge, glaring omission by Lay's. There's no Big Red & Barbacoa to choose from, so he took matters into his own hands:
.@jennifercsaenz said Lays should do a Big Red & barbacoa flavor, so I opened Photoshop. We're at 3,000 shares on FB. pic.twitter.com/fJh5bBjG1h

His original Facebook post has more than 6,000 shares so clearly there are puro fans (like local blogger SA Flavor who created this shirt) out there chomping at the bit for Lay's to get with the program. Don't get me wrong, I can get down with a N.Y. Reuben, love me some biscuits and gravy, and the idea of a gyro chip sounds intriguing, but this magical puro combo needs to happen.
We've reached out to our puro pastor (as in minister not the tacos) for more details on his creation. In the meantime, let's get Lay's to recognize this South Texas flavor post-haste.
