Wendy Davis to Visit San Antonio Tomorrow

Democratic candidate for Texas governor Wendy Davis will make a stop in San Antonio on Friday as part of her Texans Deserve to Know tour, a seven-city trip around Texas to address her Republican opponent Attorney General Greg Abbott’s decision to allow the state to conceal the location of hazardous chemicals from citizens. Davis will speak at 10:30 a.m. at a campaign phone bank event at 3300 Nacogdoches off Nacogdoches Road and Salado Parkway

Last month, the Dallas media reported that Attorney General Abbott had quietly ruled the state did not have to disclose the location of hazardous chemicals to community members and the media, citing potential security threats, just barely a year after the fatal West, Texas, plant explosion. In response to the pushback he received for the ruling, Abbott advised that if Texans wanted to know whether dangerous chemicals were being stored near their homes and neighborhoods, they could simply drive around themselves and ask each plant rather than rely on the state for that kind of public safety information. Unsurprisingly, and as WFAA in Dallas found out, it’s not as easy as it sounds.

Abbott has been receiving even more scrutiny since the Dallas Morning News unearthed a sizeable campaign donation from chemical companies, including none other than Koch Industries.  Davis, who has been lagging in the polls against Abbott, kicked off her tour this week in Fort Worth and Waco, followed by visits to Houston and Dallas. —Alexa Garcia-Ditta
